Piers Strickland

Piers has over 20 years’ experience of advising clients on all aspects of intellectual property (IP) law.

He is a recognised expert in areas including:

Piers has extensive experience in the areas of confidential information and data protection.  He also advises clients – of all sizes and from a broad spectrum of business sectors – on more general IT disputes, often relating to computer software.

In addition, Piers is adept at managing competition law cases, particularly those that involve an element of IP law. He represents both international and UK-based clients, who come to depend on his wide-ranging knowledge of business and his impressive track record when it comes to litigating in the High Court, including the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC).

His achievements and abilities have been recognised by both national and international legal guides.

The Legal 500 has praised his responsiveness and called him first-rate and knowledgeable, as well as “robust and tough when necessary”. It has said he “combines great commercial acumen with first-rate legal skills’’ and is a “pragmatic and knowledgeable practitioner who delivers a great product for his clients at a very reasonable price point” . The 2021 Legal 500 entry called him “robust and tenacious” and “exceptional”.  In the 2022 edition it was commented that: “‘Piers Strickland is the stand-out partner at [Waterfront]. The 2022 Chambers UK Guide says: “Piers Strickland is very analytical and focused on providing the right solutions in terms of what the business needs. He is very commercially focused and thorough in delivering his work.” Chambers has also said he is known for having “deep knowledge of the law’’ and being “tactically and commercially astute.  Extremely detail-orientated and really responsive.” It has called him unflappable and “strong across all areas including negotiation, strategic thinking and commercial awareness”.

The World Trademark Review has described Piers as “an excellent IP solicitor with the ability to undertake demanding pieces of litigation” and “very responsive, always accessible, very focused on clients’ commercial imperatives and very tactically aware.’’

Piers is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA). He is currently serving on its Emerging Issue sub-committee, focusing on blockchain issues.
