Piers Strickland is a Chambers and Legal 500 recognised Intellectual Property Lawyer with over 25 years’ experience.
I have over 25 years of experience specialsing in IP. I trained at Bristows, before working at various other large “City” firms. In 2009, I set up my own firm, in order to provide more responsive and cost-effective IP advice to a range of different clients. This experience of being a start-up entrepreneur gave me valuable insights into the challenges that business owners face.
I subsequently merged my practice into Waterfront, given that Waterfront’s approach and culture was aligned with my values.
I have always specialised in IP disputes and litigation. I practise across of all the major IP rights, such as trade marks, copyright, design and patents. I have also substantial experience in disputes involving confidential information and trade secrets. In addition, I regularly advice clients on commercial disputes, especially involving technology companies.
I have consistently been highly ranking as a leading IP lawyer in the major legal directories, such as Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, IP Stars, World Trademark Review and others.
Responsiveness is at the core of the service I deliver to clients. I provide a partner-led service, so that I play a central leading role in your case and do not simply delegate important work to others. Technical excellence should be a given to client, but I deliver this by virtue of being a true subject specialist, rather than a generalist lawyer. I have taken multiple cases all the way to a full trail in the High Court of England of Wales, as well as the Court of Appeal. This experience is invaluable in giving clients the correct steer at all stages of a dispute. I also have a substantial amount of experience with various forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution, especially mediation.
My personal style is tenacious, but commercially pragmatic. Ultimately, I am acutely aware that many clients have better things to be doing with their precious time. My long experience of running litigation cases means that I know when to be aggressive on a client’s behalf and when a more commercially nuanced approach is required.
